That's My Music! is a collection of resources to support the teaching and learning of composing in primary schools. It is designed to accompany the BCMG project of the same name which comprises of workshops in schools and CPD for teachers. As well as providing guidance around composing with children in the classroom it will explore different starting points for composing such as using topics, creative use of ICT in composing, using existing repertoire as a stimulus for children's own composing, song writing and other composing using voices. This resource will be added to across the next two years.
This guidance is intended to support composing in the primary classroom. It explores the history of children composing, the composing process, how to plan and manage composing activity in the classroom and effective pedagogies for the teaching and learning of composing.
This resource shares a number of warm up games that can be used in the primary classroom. As well as being a lot of fun, warm up games teach children valuable musical skills such as listening and playing as a group, explore musical concepts such as dynamics, tempo, texture, rhythm and prepare children for subsequent composing activity.
TREE is a set of resources exploring how children can compose music, words and visual art inspired by trees. The resources were developed to accompany BCMG's 2021 primary school project TREE and inspired by The Singing Tree by composer Christian Mason. This resource is currently work-in-progress and will be added to throughout the project.
